UDA gubernatorial candidate photoshops himself into Raila’s past rally to show huge crowd

by Amos Khaemba

Murang’a UDA gubernatorial candidate Irungu Kang’ata has caused a stare after he doctored a picture from the 2022 presidential election frontrunner Raila Odinga’s past rally.

On Thursday May 12, Kang’ata took to his verified Twitter page, where he shared the poster of him and Winnie Mwangi, his nominee for the deputy governor post accompanying the manifesto he has for the county.

In the background of the poster was a huge crowd which the senator, a staunch critic of the ODM leader, seems to have implied was his.

However, the Kivumbi.co.ke had established that the photo was deliberately doctored, with the intent of depicting the popularity of the Murang’a governorship aspirant.

Kivumbi has established that Kang’ata lifted the photo from the archives of the now-defunct National Super Alliance (NASA) campaigns during the 2017 vote.

The original photo shows NASA’s 2017 presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga addressing a huge gathering of his supporters at Nairobi’s Uhuru Park grounds.

The UDA gubernatorial candidate expunged the image of Raila and replaced it with his image and that of his running mate nominee.

By the time of publishing this article, the Murang’a gubernatorial candidate had deleted the tweet but already social media users who noticed the trick employed by the outspoken legislator blasted him for hoodwinking Murang’a voters using other peoples ‘crowd’.

“Kanga’ata, Where in Murang’a is this? Kama hiyo ni huko Kweli basi Usha shinda. (if the crowd is legit then you have already won the election)” Jakanader a random Twitter user said.

Another Twitter user Ranchos said, “Unaweka Picha ya Raila Odinga ya Uhuru park. Joker of the year. (You put a photo of Raila Odinga of Uhuru Park. Joker of the Year)”

“Hadi crowd inaibwa! Enyewe mwizi ni mwizi Tu, (Up to Crowd is stolen! Now I believe a thief is just a thief)” Andrew Wakali said.
