The United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a party heavily associated with Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto is the most preferred political party in the Mt Kenya region, the latest poll by Mizani Africa has revealed.

According to the survey conducted between 1st October to 13th October 2021 across 11 Counties in the Mt Kenya region showed that William Ruto’s UDA party is the most preferred political party.

The survey dubbed ‘Mount Kenya region vote preferences’ revealed that 61.7 percent of Mt Kenya residents prefer the UDA party over other political vehicles.

Raila Odinga’s party ODM and president Uhuru’s party, Jubilee, which are in coalition mergers talks ahead of the 2022 General Election were named the second and third most preferred political parties with 22.4 and 10.2 percent respectively.

While analysts and Pro-Ruto allies claim the ruling outfit Jubilee is dead, the Mizani Africa survey showed that Jubilee is still popular among some of the Mt Kenya residents.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party was previously called the Party of Development and Reforms (PDR) before it was revamped in December 2020 by Ruto’s allies.

Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) Anne Nderitu announced the rebranding of the UDA party after the outfit changed its symbol from a bull to a wheelbarrow in line with its slogan ‘kazi ni kazi.’

It is understood that the newly rebranded outfit defeated the once most popular and some of the oldest parties to win several by-elections in the Mt Kenya region.

For instance, in July 02021, UDA’s first elected Member of Parliament John Njuguna won the hotly contested Kiambaa by-election signifying the party’s strong presence in the region.

The party also has two elected Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Rurii Ward in Kiambu County and London Ward in Nakuru County.

The deputy president in April said he will use the UDA to contest for the presidency should the Jubilee party deny him the opportunity to fly Jubilee’s flag.
