UDA party explains why Moses Kuria’s party withdrew candidate from Kiambaa by-election

UDA party has spoken on claims that Moses Kuria was forced to withdraw his candidate from the Kiambaa Constituency and Muguga Ward by elections.

In a press statement seen by Kivumbi.co.ke, the United Democratic Party said that Moses Kuria’s People’s Empowerment Party willingly stepped out of the race.

UDA secretary-general Veronica Maina said that Moses Kuria opted out because of the huge support he had received from UDA members in the just concluded Juja by-elections.

“It will be recalled that UDA supported PEP in the recent successful Juja Parliamentary by-election and its on this gesture that they have withdrawn their candidate in Kiambaa. This will give the Hustler Nation an opportunity to focus on the campaign without unnecessary division and negative energy,” read a statement from UDA.

Maina’s statement came after Moses Kuria accused MPs Rigathi Gachagua and Kimani Ichungwah of being displeased with his decision to field candidates.

While announcing his decision to step out of the race, the Gatundu South legislator said he is doing so to please his opponents.

“…This did not go down very well with my colleagues particularly Rigathi Gachagua and Kimani Ichungwa. Yesterday, I held extensive discussions with my boss and friend H.E Dr William Ruto on this matter.

“To make my two colleagues happy and above all for the unity of the Hustler Nation, PEP will not be fielding a candidate for the Kiambaa by-election.” Said Moses Kuria.

However, Veronicah Maina disputed the claim, saying that UDA is a democratic and transparent party.

She further disputed claims on party ownership.

“We however wish to state categorically that UDA is neither Hon Johnstone Muthama’s party, nor is it managed by sitting MPs. On the contrary, UDA is the Hustler’s party.”
