UDA says it has no coalition agreement with Musalia, Wetang’ula

by Amos Khaemba

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party of Deputy President William Ruto has come out to clarify that it has no coalition agreement with ANC of Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya of Moses Wetang’ula.

In a press conference on Monday, January 31, UDA national chairman Johnson Muthama said there is no formal agreement with ANC and Ford Kenya and they are currently only operating on the basis of friendship.

Muthama urged UDA aspirants and supporters not to panic, but to continue working for the common good of UDA and Kenya Kwanza.

“As we are speaking now, you are being assured by none other than UDA chairman, there is no coalition agreement that has been arrived between the three coalition parties,” Muthama said.

“We are friends who continue talking and engaging but when the time comes for then that issue will be dealt with at that time,” he added.

At the same time, the former Machakos senator pointed out that there is no zoning of the country on basis of the strength of the three parties

“Further, there is no zoning done on any elective positions within our country. Currently, our priority with ANC and Ford Kenya is to work for the unity of Kenya and eliminate tribalism,” Muthama said.

The clarification by Muthama comes after reports emerged that a deal had been inked to zone some counties giving express advantage to ANC and Ford Kenya.

Johnson Muthama’s press conference elicited varied reactions as some people felt Mudavadi and Wetang’ula were being shortchanged by DP Ruto.

Some social media users questioned the sincerity of the partnership some predicting that it will not last long.

Muthama’s address comes barely two days after UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina had sent out a statement terming the allegation of a deal between the three parties as to the creation of media and should be treated as speculative reporting.

Since Mudavadi announced his willingness to work with Deputy President William Ruto, they have been holding join rallies in various parts of the country.

DP Ruto, Mudavadi, and Wetang’ula have so far visited Nakuru, Bungoma, and Kirinyaga where they held mega rallies preaching Kenya Kwanza gospel.
