A United Democratic Alliance supporter in Nyeri County has named her newborn baby after Deputy President William Ruto’s wife, Rachel Ruto.

Sarah Muthoni Warukemi welcomed her daughter Shantel Rachael Ruto at Nyeri Provincial General Hospital on Sunday, December 19.

In an exclusive interview with Tuko.co.ke on Tuesday, December 21, Muthoni said she named her newborn after Willian Ruto’s wife because he helped President Uhuru Kenyatta to win the 2017 and 2017 General Election respectively.

“He (Ruto) helped Uhuru in 2013 and 2017 so I wanted to thank him by naming my daughter after his wife Racheal as a Christmas gift. He is not our family member or relatives but I decided to give him a gift because I love him so much,” she said.

She further revealed that she had planned to name her sibling after Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga had she been a boy.

She called on the deputy president to visit his wife in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region as he popularize his Bottom-Up economic model ahead of his titanic battle with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“I love Ruto because he has a stand, he should know that we are with him and we will stand with him so he shouldn’t be stressed, he is welcome to Nyeri and should not be afraid. He is my friend. When he comes to Mt Kenya he will be coming to visit his wife Racheal Ruto here in Nyeri,” she added.

This comes barely a month after a man named his newborn after Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino.

The man only identified as Herbart informed the ODM legislator of the birth of another leader in the years to come.

“Bro, my wife has given birth to a boy. We named him Babu Owino,” the man said.
