Uganda National Assembly speaker Anita Among has reportedly exchanged vows with her colleague Moses Magogo as a third wife.
The 48-year-old speaker of the 11th parliament walked down the aisle with the Federation of Uganda Football Association (Fufa) on Monday, August 1, at a private event.
“Fufa president Moses Magogo and Speaker of Parliament Anita Among are now officially husband and wife,” one of the local media reported.
Their marriage is a culmination of a romantic affair between the love birds which went public for the first time when they visited Mukono Municipality woman legislator Betty Nambooze Bakireke in hospital.
According to photos circulating on social media platforms, Among is see dressed in a pink and gold flowing traditional dress while Magogo was clad in a blue suit.
The photos further showed the lovebirds holding each other’s arms.
The invite-only event brought Among’s closest associates including her deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa.
Among, who was recently elected Speaker following the abrupt death of Jacob Oulanyah is now a co-wife to Dorah Ssali alias Dellah Sally and another woman who is yet to be known due to her private lifestyle.
Dellah who got married to the top football official in 2017 is blessed with one baby girl.
Being a second or third wife is not strange in Uganda. The Ugandan law allows for polygamy in customary weddings.
Unlike in Kenya, where a second or third wife would only become public at the funeral of the husband, polygamy in Uganda has deep roots as a cultural practice.
Indeed traditional marriage in Uganda includes polygamy which is not illegal.
For instance, research shows that 31 percent of Ugandan Christian men claim to have more than one wife.
