President Uhuru’s cousin Kung’u Muigai has expressed regrets after he sharply criticized the head of state for endorsing ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

On Tuesday, March 1, Uhuru’s cousin claimed that the vote-rich Mt Kenya region took an oath in the year 1969 not to let Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and his kin lead the country.

But in an interview with NTV on Wednesday, March 2, Kung’u who is also the patron of the Kikuyu National Council of Elders patron apologized for the embarrassing remarks adding that the remarks were taken out of context.

President Uhuru’s cousin Kung’u Muigai has expressed regrets after he sharply criticized the head of state for endorsing ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

“It is unfathomable to my family and friends to think that I would have the audacity to address his Excellency through the media. I, therefore, take this opportunity to apologize to him for any embarrassment that it might have caused,” he said.

While affirming that the oath was made, Uhuru’s cousin said the Jubilee party leader was not involved in the oath adding that he did not intend to expose the Head of State to the media.

Last month, the president endorsed his handshake partner and a long-time political foe, Raila Odinga, as his preferred heir.

However, in a report by Taifa Leo, Uhuru’s cousin watered down the endorsement saying the decision to support his handshake partner did not belong to the Mount Kenya community but to him as an individual.

Kung’u further said those who took the 1969 oath should be cleansed before supporting Odinga, otherwise, the vote-rich Mt Kenyan community will be cursed.

While addressing Mt Kenya leaders at Sagana III, the president urged Mt Kenya leaders to support the former prime minister in the August 9, General Election.

“I’m asking you to support Raila Odinga as he means well for the Country,” Uhuru said.
