Wambugu: Funny memes of Riggy G undermining office of Deputy President

Since he was sworn in as the second in command, Kenyan artists have been tickling netizens with their comical skit depicting Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua dressing and talking style.

For instance, upcoming comedian KK Mwenyewe has been entertaining Kenyans by perfectly mimicking how the former Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua speaks.

As such, former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has warned about the trend of mimicking the second in command saying it is not good for the office of the deputy president.

Wambugu, said on Wednesday, October 5, that the content creators and the media have in the past been focusing on DP Gachagua’s controversial remarks which he says are painting him in a bad light.

The former legislator said as much as Gachagus is even though the “deputy president has a lot of sensible in between his earthy humor and a joke, the media tends to only carry those stories that make us laugh at him.”

“Let’s be honest, the man from my home county is neither the worst-dressed politician around, nor is he a political buffoon. But we have cartoons and memes of him as such,

“In a couple of months no one will take him or what he says seriously. Ultimately this will completely undermine his office and his role as DP,” Ngunjiri said.

While citing the recent statement by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) correcting Gachagua for sentiment he made during an interview with a local television station, Wambugu, an ardent defender of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta said such moves would undermine his office in the long run.

“Gradually we will get to a point where his public image will be of a political joker who’s out of his depth as a Deputy President,” Wambugu said.
