On Friday, October 28, Meru County’s First Gentleman, Murega Baichu petitioned the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to define his roles in the county government.

The husband to Meru governor-elect Kawira Mwangaza said that he had been banned from getting a lift from his wife’s official car forcing him to enlist the services of a boda boda.

Baichu further claimed that he does not sleep with his wife at their official residence adding that the move had subjected him to what he termed as “Gender Based Violence (GBV).”

On Friday, October 28, Meru County’s First Gentleman, Murega Baichu petitioned the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to define his roles in the county government.

“I would wish to understand if I should sleep at the governor’s official residence or ride in her official government vehicle. I also want to know which county meetings I should attend because, to this end, I feel I am being subjected to Gender Based-Violence (GBV),” he explained.

However, the commission in a rejoinder distanced itself from saying it could not purport to arbitrate on the matter.

“In the performance of its duties, EACC is guided by the law and does not venture into personal or family affairs,” it said.

The EACC further urged members of the public to dismiss Murega Baichu’s claims saying they are aimed at trivializing the commission’s work.

“The Commission urges the public to ignore such allegations which are clearly calculated to trivialize and politicize the Commission’s work,” it said.

Baichu, whose lover appointed him to a county government post, said he has been forced to sit behind the tent in all county government functions.

“Since the complaints were filed at EACC, I am now forced to sit behind the tent in all county government functions, and I no longer ride in the governor’s official vehicle whenever we go for meetings. She now sleeps alone at the official residence while I sleep at our home,” he claimed.
