Where is Rigathi Gachagua? Ruto’s running mate disappears from rallies

by Enock Ndayala

Deputy President William Ruto’s popularity has no doubt taken a hit since naming Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his 2022 presidential running mate.

For instance, the latest survey conducted by the Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) established that Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition party presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga is ahead of William Ruto with just 28 days to the polls.

While Gachagua has been touted as a strong grassroots mobilizer, his lose mouth has been cited as the greatest undoing to William Ruto beating Raila Odinga for the presidency.

Since Deputy President William Ruto named Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his 2022 presidential running mate, his popularity has been dropping even as the elections approach.
Since Deputy President William Ruto named Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his 2022 presidential running mate, his popularity has been dropping even as the elections approach.

Lately, Gachagua has not been featuring prominently in William Ruto’s many rallies across the country, prompting many to ask him where his running mate is.

Unlike Raila-Karua who campaign mostly together, Ruto-Gachagua seems not to be accompanying each other with a section of Kenyans raising questions over Gachagua’s whereabouts.

Gachagua used to be a common figure in Kenya Kwanza Alliance rallies but has since been missing in notable campaign events for several days now.

Kivumbi.co.ke understands that the last time Kenya Kwanza alliance presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua spoke was on Sunday, July 3, during a church service in Meru.

In his address, the former Personal Assistance to President Uhuru Kenyatta accused Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential running mate Martha Karua of walking out on late president Daniel Moi in a public event.

The sentiments received backlash online with a handful of Kenyans saying he used vulgar language in church.

Since then, Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential flag bearer William Ruto has been hunting for votes alone.

For instance, in the last three days, Ruto has traversed the counties of Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Turkana, Bungoma, and Tharaka Nithi where Gachagua has been missing in the campaign trails.
