Why Kiambu woman rep dumped Uhuru for Ruto

by Nderi Caren

Kiambu Woman Rep Gathoni Wa Muchomba pulled a surprising stunt yesterday when she officially joined William Ruto’s tanga tanga camp from the Jubilee party

Being an ardent supporter of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Wa Muchomba used to be in the front line in pro-BBI and anti- Ruto campaigns in Central Kenya.

However, after the Jubilee party huge fall in the Juja by-elections held on May 18, Wa Muchomba realised she was in the wrong camp.

Why Kiambu woman rep Gathoni Wa Muchomba dumped Uhuru's Jubilee party for Ruto
Being an ardent supporter of Jubilee party and President Uhuru Kenyatta, Wa Muchomba used to be in the front line in pro- BBI and anti- Ruto campaigns in Central Kenya.

After PEP’s Geoffrey Koimburi was announced the winner of the Juja Constituency seat, Wa Muchomba wrote a letter announcing a sabbatical leave from politics.

“I have not left the Jubilee Party. That is the party that took me to Parliament. What I have done is that I have switched allegiance to William Ruto because that is where Kiambu people are.

“Numbers don’t lie, the numbers that we saw in Juja are the true reflection of the people and the numbers that we will see in Kiambaa will be a reflection of the people.

“I had kept a low profile and during that period I held over 100 meetings with my supporters who told me that I was in the wrong camp,” Wa Muchomba said.

Other than the Kiambu Woman rep, Ruto also received Githunguri MP Gabriel Kago and Nakuru East’s David Gikaria, who were both supporters of President Uhuru’s Kieleweke camp.

The exit of the 3 legislators has sounded a wakeup call in President Uhuru’s camp.

Even though Governor Anne Waiguru and Lee Kinyanjui had smelt the Coffee before, Wa Muchomba’s exit has caused more tension in the party.

After her exit, Nyeri town MP Ngujiri Wambugu expressed his disappointment in Jubilee losing a valuable player like Wa Muchomba.

“I see that Gathoni Wa Muchomba has left our team and will now be playing for William Ruto’s brigade. As things stand, I will not be surprised if we lose another one or two more valuable players. We have some heavy lifting ahead to fix our party, and not everyone will want to do it,” Wambugu said.
