William Kabogo threatens to dump William Ruto

by Enock Ndayala

Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo has threatened to dump the yet to be registered Kenya Kwanza coalition whose presidential flag bearer is Deputy President William Ruto.

This comes barely days after the Wakenya Tujibebe party leader declared his support for the former Jubilee deputy party leader in the upcoming 2022 presidential election.

“Let me show you, in broad daylight, where my vote for president is going. This [DP Ruto] is the fifth president of Kenya. We [Kikuyus] are not anyone’s property and if I’ll be punished for saying that then let it happen today,” Kabogo said.

But addressing Wakenya Tujibebe aspirants in Nyeri County on Tuesday, March 22, the Kiambu gubernatorial aspirants in this year’s General Election accused the UDA flag bearer of contesting the ‘one man, one shilling, one vote’ sharing formulae.

He said while he was pushing for the ‘one man, one shilling, one vote’ principle arguing that it would go a long way in elevating poverty within our communities, Ruto was on the other side protesting the formula claiming that it will majority of the counties.

“And how did he answer me? He said that if you do one man one vote from the begging, we will hurt many counties,

“Can we agree that we leave the counties as they are today so that what every county gets is the minimum? Any additional money we will bring into devolution would be shared according to population and we have agreed but we want it in writing. If he (William Ruto) doesn’t do it in writing then I may change my mind,” Kabogo explained.

According to experts, the ‘one man, one shilling, one vote’ seeks to address six primary objectives: To enhance service delivery, to promote balanced development, to incentivize counties, to optimize capacity, to raise revenue, and to incentivize prudent use of public resources.
