William Ruto allies blame the state for alleged abduction of Denis Itumbi

by Enock Ndayala

Members of Parliament allied to Deputy President William Ruto have pointed an accusing finger at the state over the alleged abduction of blogger Dennis Itumbi.

In a statement issued on Friday, December 24, the legislators accused the State of planning the abduction and torture of William Ruto’s digital strategist for his criticism of some top government officials via his social media platforms.

According to the group which comprised of Susan Kihika, Kipchumba Murkomen, Aaron Cheruiyot, Ben Washiali, Ndindi Nyoro, Kimani Ichungwa, Gladys Shollei, and Rigathi Gachagua, the abductors demanded that Itumbi stop discussing David Mwendwa, son of the Inspector-General of the National Police Service, who is under investigation following a road accident that claimed the lives of two bodaboda riders.

“Itumbi has confirmed that his abductors took turns to beat him while warning him that the torture was revenge for his social media coverage of CS Fred Matiang’i, PS Karanja Kibicho, the Inspector-General of the Police Service Hillary Mutyambai, and DCI George Kinoti,” the MPs said in a statement read by Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika.

The MPs who are leaning towards estranged deputy president further urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to set up a commission of inquiry to probe criminals targeting political players ahead of the 2022 General Election.

“We demand Impartial and independent investigation and President to constitute a commission of inquiry into the existence of a criminal squad targeting political players,” she added.

This comes barely a day after William Ruto’s digital communications strategist Dennis Itumbi was reported missing at Thindigua Police Post in Kiambu County on Thursday, December 23.

Itumbi was found dumped in a thicket in the Lucky Summer area of Kasarani alive but naked on the wee hours of Friday, December 24, and he is currently admitted at a Nairobi Hospital.

The police officers have since launched investigations into the abduction and torture of Dennis Itumbi.
