William Ruto allies criticize President Uhuru’s address to the nation

by Nderi Caren

Allies of Deputy President William Ruto have taken a swipe at President Uhuru’s address to the nation at parliament buildings on Tuesday, November 30.

In his address, Uhuru read a long speech talking about the country’s economic status, the Covid-19 pandemic, the BBI, and several development projects in place.

The speech from the president was so long that it took him 2 hours to read it and he even complained of being tired of reading the long speech himself.

Najaribu kukatakata jamani hata mimi nimechoka (I’m trying to keep it short; even I am tired),” Uhuru said leaving MPs in stitches.

However, the long speech from President Uhuru’s address also attracted criticism from William Ruto’s allies.

According to Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Uhuru’s speech at the State of the Nation address was long and empty.

“Parliament should pass law to set the maximum time that future Presidents will take in the State of the Nation Address. Like Winston Churchill said “a good speech should be like woman’s skirt ….” Murkomen wrote in a tweet.

On the other hand, Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika expressed dissatisfaction, saying Uhuru did not address important issues.

“For those still watching the long, tedious, and uninspirational speech, has he told the Nation about the Pandora Papers yet?” Susan Kihika possed.

From the State of the Nation address, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa took a swipe at Uhuru, saying he has performed poorly in his second term.

“From 2013-2018 I would give him 8 marks out of 10…from 2017 till now I will give him 3 marks…that is 30%. If I was a teacher I would write on his report card ‘please see me with your parents’,” Didmus said.

Before the State of the Nation address, Kipchumba Murkomen had decried an act from the Senate leadership to lockout Ruto allies from the chambers.
