Allies of Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto have welcomed Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to UDA with an assurance that there will be free and fair nominations.

Led by Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua, the members further called upon other leaders allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta to follow suit claiming that the UDA party was not only gaining momentum in the region but is also anchored on democracy.

“And we want to all those who are coming to come because our party is very democratic, wide and we will accommodate everybody,

“And we want to say even we the founder member of UDA part, we are willing and prepared to face our competitors in a free and fair nomination,” Gachagua said.

Waiguru who recently assured Narck Kenya Martha Karua of defeat in the 2022 Kirinyaga gubernatorial race will have to face off with Kirinyaga Woman Rep Purity Ngirici in party primaries.

The legislator, however, warned Waiguru to prepare for state harassment.

“I know they will harass her here and there but it is better for her to be harassed by police, Kenya Revenue Authority than to be punished by voters,” he added.

On Wednesday, September 22, Waiguru agreed to calls to join ditch President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party for UDA, a political party heavily associated with Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto.

Her decision to join Ruto-linked political party comes barely weeks after the embattled county chief said it will be too hard for her to reclaim the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat on a Jubilee ticket.

“The truth of the matter is that defending my seat if the polls were held today would be very difficult, and that is the truth of the matter unless something changes in Jubilee,” she said.
