William Ruto, Musalia Mudavadi allies clash at rally in Nairobi

by Amos Khaemba

Deputy President William Ruto and Musalia Mudavadi allies on February 1, clashed openly at a political rally in Westlands, Nairobi.

Rivalry within the yet-to-be registered Kenya Kwanza seems to have started in earnest as Margaret Wanjiru confronts Senator Sakaja during a whistle-stop rally in CBD.

In a video circulating on social media, Wanjiru is seen shouting and pointing her hand at Sakaja as supporters of the two shout at each other.

According to The Star Newspaper, trouble began after Sakaja who was in charge of the program cut short Wanjiru’s speech before she had finished selling her candidature to the city residents.

It is reported that Sakaja asked Wanjiru to cut short her speech after youths started to become rowdy as she was addressing them.

As the drama unfolded, Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula could only watch in amusement.

In his speech, Sakaja called on all aspirants to respect each other during the campaign period saying it’s the only way that will guarantee them votes.

“In Kenya Kwanza, we have Margaret Wanjiru also vying for the seat of the governor, I respect her as my mother but it is the Nairobi residents who will make the ultimate decision,”

“We are people who believe in decent politics and that has had always been my kind. If you do not like someone it’s better you keep off that shout at him. As a team, we share seat down and agree on the best candidate to ensure Kenya Kwanza win the gubernatorial seat,” Sakaja said.

The clash between Wanjiru and Sakaja is a test of the unity within Kenya Kwanza especially bearing in mind that they are currently operating informally.

The commotion also comes after UDA chairman Johnson Muthama, dismissed reports of zoning which had allowed ANC to field the candidate Nairobi gubernatorial seat.
