Deputy President William Ruto on Monday, November 22 took a break from busy campaigns schedules to attend the first government meeting in a long time.

Ruto, who has been missing in key government meetings since his falling out with President Uhuru Kenyatta chaired a meeting by the council of Governors.

Notably, the meeting was attended by Governors allied to the Deputy President and only a few non-UDA governors.

“As a member of Finance & Econ planning committee of COG & Governor Kirinyaga I participated in the 15th IBEC chaired by William Ruto.

We deliberated on Budget Policy statemnt, Econ Recovery Strategy, pending bills, delayed disbursement to counties & Division of Revenue Bill,” Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru shared in a tweet.

Other governors who attended included Martin Wambora(Embu) Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia), Stanley Kiptis (Baringo), Josphat Nanok (Turkana), Paul Chepkwony (Kericho), Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu), Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu), and Sospeter Ojamoong.

The meeting comes after complaints from President Uhuru allied MPs that William Ruto is not performing his official duties.

Nyeri Town MP Ngujiri Wambugu said that Ruto is engaged in busy campaigns instead of attending to his job as the deputy president.

“I see TangaTanga are very proud of the fact that Ruto has done 187+ political rallies in 30 days. And it is quite a remarkable achievement,

“What they don’t realise is that they have just confirmed that we as Kenyans pay (William) Ruto a government salary as a deputy president. However what he does every day is to work as a presidential aspirant,”Wambugu said.

After chairing the meeting, William Ruto said he has not yet started his campaigns but has been doing his job as a deputy president.

“I haven’t started the campaigns because the campaign period is not yet announced by the IEBC. What you have seen me do, is within my mandate, speaking to people, understanding their issues and assessing the extend of our government projects,” he said.
