Deputy President William Ruto has changed his campaign strategy to focus on grassroots leaders in a bid to increase his popularity ahead of 2022.

In his latest campaign schedules, William Ruto has been seen to be concentrating on going deep into towns to meet the electorates directly.

This is unlike before where Ruto would visit more than one county in a day, only making short stopovers at major towns.

“If you have been keen, you should have noted that previously our meetings were largely in town centers, headquarters of the counties. The DP has visited nearly all the counties and we cannot repeat visiting the same venues,” Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua says.

According to William Ruto’s ally and Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau their strategy is to reach many electorates and have many grassroots leaders on board.

“In the 2022 election, the country will witness a natural transition to new power. I dare say it will be the true transition from post-colonial power to a new dispensation that power will rest in the hands of Kenyans,” Gitau told the Star.

For this reason, Ruto has been giving grassroots leaders a chance to speak directly to electorates during his mega rallies.

Also, in his new campaign strategy, William Ruto has minimized his visits to the Mt Kenya region and engaged in talks with the region’s leaders.

Ruto’s confidants say that he has minimised his visits to the central region due to the slippery nature of the Mt Kenya voting bloc.

The new strategy comes at a time when William Ruto has been termed as the most preferred presidential candidate in the region.

A recent poll by Mizani Africa showed that 58.2% of Mt Kenya residents will vote for William Ruto while 27.1% will vote for Raila Odinga.
