Deputy President William Ruto has protested the new Bill proposing the ban on the live transmission of presidential election results in the August 9, General Election.

In a statement on his official Twitter page on Thursday, February 3, Ruto said the Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2022 which is being fronted by the handshake team is a ploy by the State to install a ‘puppet president’ through forceful, undemocratic, and unconstitutional means.

“The never-ending onslaught through election law amendments is a choreographed attempt to install a puppet on the Kenyan electorate and sabotage our freedom of choice and hard-earned democracy. The plan is evil and must fail. The people have resoundingly said hatupangwingwi,

“The desperate efforts to install project kitendawili by forceful, against the law, undemocratic and unconstitutional means portends a troubling future for Kenya, its democracy, the rule of law, freedom of its citizens and, ultimately, everyone’s well-being,” William Ruto said.

On Wednesday, February 2, the leader of the majority in the National Assembly Amos Kimunya tabled the new Bill seeking the reintroduction of manual transmission of presidential election results.

“Clause 21 seeks to amend Section 44A of the Act to provide for a complementary mechanism for voter identification and transmission of election results,” proposes the bill.

But the presidential hopeful termed the move as desperate and promised to do all it takes to make sure that it does not go through.

“The plan is evil and must fail,” said the deputy president said.

On his part, outspoken Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria said the proposed changes were a recipe for chaos adding that the Azimio team would be the biggest losers if the bill sailed through.

“I was there in 2007. I was there through Kriegler. I can say without fear of contradiction that the Amendments proposed by uprooter Amos Kimunya are a recipe for chaos. I will oppose,” Moses Kuria said.
