William Ruto cornered as his main rival, Raila receives more support

by Enock Ndayala
William Ruto has lashed out at the Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga saying he lacks the plan to transform the country.

Raila Odinga’s statehouse bid appears to be gaining more support as political bigwigs reposition themselves around the Orange Democratic Movement leader ahead of the 2022 General Election.

On Friday, December 10, the ODM leader confirmed that he will throw his hat in the ring for next year’s presidential showdown, in what has shaped the contest into a two-horse race.

The latest to abandon Ruto’s camp for Raila include West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo, his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, who declared their support for Raila before the Kasarani launch.

Kingi who had earlier dropped hints that he was headed to William Ruto’s UDA camp last week categorically expressed his support for Azimio although he will still retain his new party, Pamoja African Alliance (PAA).

Also, Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa’s party Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-Kenya) set to be officially launched today has thrown its support behind the Azimio La Umoja Movement.

According to CS Wamalwa’s personal assistant Kizito Temba, presidential hopeful Raila Odinga has been invited and he is expected to attend the launch of the new party which is expected to support his bid in 2022 elections.

“We expect him (Raila) to attend. DAP Kenya is a national party and will field candidates for all positions except the presidency. We will form a coalition with the Azimio Movement,” Kizito said.

Apart from CS Wamalwa, Mandera Governor Ali Roba recently said that his United Democratic Movement would support Raila Odinga’s working relationship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner Raila Odinga.

“We are watching closely the developments of the Azimio la Umoja Movement. It is the interest of every leader to work towards unity and bring Kenyans together which is President Agenda and Raila to unify the nation. We will be counted in the Azimio project soon,” he said.
