Ruto further took a swipe at his Kieleweke faction’s opponents, saying they had been promoting divisive politics in Nairobi County.

He said that Nairobi is now locked under the UDA zone and therefore would not allow his opponents to divide the city’s population on the basis of caste.

The deputy president was speaking during a meeting with delegates from various constituencies within Nairobi at his Karen residence on Friday, December 17.

The 2022 presidential front-runner further assured all those aspiring for various political seats on his party ticket that there would be a free and fair nomination exercise.

The deputy president allayed fears that there would be favouritism in the UDA primaries, adding that the popularity of candidates among the party’s leadership will be of no relevance during the nominations exercise.

“Please, take it from me, everybody will get a fair chance. We don’t have any preferred candidate for any seat,” William Ruto said.

Ruto cautioned those aspiring candidates fond of boasting of how they have good networking with party officials and stressed the need for all aspirants to campaign on the grassroots and familiarize themselves with the voters mandated to elect them.

“The people are the ultimate deciders in a democracy. If you are a leader focus on the people, listen to them, engage them and show them how you will deliver especially to the ordinary people. The United Democratic Alliance upholds this ideal,” Ruto said in a Tweet.
