Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday, November 11 dished out KSh 2 Million in Raila’s stronghold, Homabay County but with some conditions to the recipients.
It appears the former Eldoret North MP has adopted dishing out money as a way to win his way into the hearts of voters as he looks to be Kenya’s fifth president.
He gave the money to residents of Raila’s stronghold on the condition that it will be distributed in an orderly manner.
From the amount, Boda Boda operators will receive KSh 1 million whereas traders will receive KSh 1 million.
“Be peaceful while receiving the funds, I don’t want to hear or see chaos erupting as a result of the donation,
“On Friday, organize yourselves into small groups so that you can receive money from my logistics team. I do not want to witness any chaos” William Ruto said.
His warning comes after reports that the violence witnessed in the Kondele area on Wednesday was caused by funds issued by the Deputy President.
In a statement on Wednesday, November 10, Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso said residents were fighting over Ruto’s campaign money moments before he toured the area.
When Ruto arrived in Kondele to popularise his presidential bid, his convoy was met with stones from angry residents.
The police spokesperson said that Ruto ignored the advice from authorities not to tour the area but ignored it.
On his part, the Deputy President blamed his opponent Raila Odinga for sponsoring the violence.
“You are the ones who will decide, I am asking my friends, the leader of ODM.. please let us not use our children to throw stones and cause violence.
These young people deserve jobs, and an atmosphere to work, they should not be misused,” William Ruto said.
The ODM leader dismissed the claims, saying Ruto is too small to engage him.
