Deputy President William Ruto has his eyes set on political strategists who worked for the late president Daniel Moi ahead of the 2022 presidential race.

An optimistic Ruto has seen great potential in this team which helped Moi to rule the country for 24 years, being the longest-serving president in Kenya.

Kivumbi.co.ke has learnt that the Daniel Moi allies that the DP is said to be eyeing include; his press secretary Lee Njiru, businessman Joshua Kulei, former ministers Henry Kosgei and Franklin Bett, Benjamin Sogomo, and Silas Yego.

The 6 people who come from the Rift valley region were very influential in Moi’s regime and Ruto seeks their endorsement for the 2022 presidency.

Through getting their support, the DP also believes that he will have reduced Gideon Moi’s popularity in the region.

In December, Lee Njiru held a meeting with Ruto whereby he was asked to reach out to other allies of the late Daniel Moi to encourage them to endorse him.

A Member of Parliament from the rift valley region opened up to Daily Nation Newspaper, saying that their aim was to make sure Gideon Moi only remains with William Kamket and Nick Salat as his strong supporters.

“We want to ensure that Gideon Moi’s camp only remains with Tiaty MP William Kamket and his Secretary-General Nick Salat. This way we will have gotten the Rift Valley Kingship,” said the MP who did not want to be mentioned.

Soy MP Caleb Kositany said that they aim at getting support from Ruto in all the rural areas in Rift Valley. He said that Lee Njiru was already on their side and will be so useful to them.

With this new plan, DP Ruto has also stretched his hand towards former President Mwai Kibaki’s close associates.

On April 22, he met former Central Bank of Kenya Governor Njuguna Ndung’u, who pledged to help him develop a new economic model through the African Economic Research Consortium.
