William Ruto gets hostile reception in Kisii county

Deputy President William Ruto was treated to a hostile reception by residents of Kisii County during his rally on Wednesday, December 8.

The DP, who had toured the region to popularise his bottom-up economic model was met with chaos from rowdy youths at Itibo market.

Kisii county being an area perceived to be Raila Odinga’s stronghold, the hecklers were chanting ODM slogans amid Ruto’s rally.

Chaotic scenes were witnessed as security officers dispersed the hecklers and in the process, four of them were arrested.

The four were taken to Itibo police officers, where the authorities said they would press charges on them for being drunk and disorderly.

However, their arrest led to another chaotic encounter as their colleagues stormed the police station calling for their release.

The Deputy President called on police officers to release the suspects, saying that the current economic model does not provide conducive environments for them to prosper, hence resorting to being guns for hire.

“It is no surprise that those driving exclusive top-down model of governance find no place for youth, except to deploy them on retrogressive errands as witnessed in some of our meetings including today’s successful tour of Kisii County,” Ruto said.

The melee comes a day after William Ruto was heckled during his tour of Laikipia County on Tuesday, December 7.

While addressing a rally, the Deputy President was interrupted with chants from youths alleged to have been sponsored by ex-mungiki leader Maina Njenga.

Immediately, Ruto ordered the hecklers to maintain order or leave his campaign trail.

He challenged Maina Njenga to organize his own rally and stop interrupting his.

“Plan your own meeting, stop this stupidity…I will not accept it. You have come to heckle us here? Listen to me, if you do not want orderliness…please don’t come to heckle in my meeting. Everyone should organize his own meeting… this is mine,” William Ruto said.
