William Ruto: I regret my relationship with president Uhuru ended this way

by Enock Ndayala

There is no doubt the simmering tension between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto has escalated to an extent the two don’t see eye-to-eye like before.

At the center of the tension between the erstwhile political friends in succession politics, the performance of the Jubilee government, and alleged betrayal from both sides.

President Kenyatta has in recent days openly shown support for Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga, going ahead to publicly endorse him as his preferred successor, much to the disappointment of his deputy.

With barely a month to the August 9, presidential election, the simmering tension between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto has escalated to an extent the two don’t see each other eye-to-eye.

Speaking on Thursday, July 7, during a Town Hall session hosted by KTN News, the Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential flag bearer William Ruto weighed in on his strained relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The former Eldoret North MP regretted the current state of his relationship with the Head of State saying, “it was the least of things he wanted.”

“An important issue about my relationship with my boss (President Uhuru Kenyatta). I think it’s really unfortunate, and I regret the fact that it’s gone this way,” Ruto said.

The 2022 presidential front-runner further said that he has been very patient and has endured a lot as the deputy president.

He said if the same treatment was subjected to his 2022 presidential challenger Raila Odinga or Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, they would have reacted in a different way.

“I have been a very patient person, the kind of humiliation that I have been subjected to by my boss nobody could have taken it. If it was for example Raila or Martha Karua they would have done drastic things already,” William Ruto said.
