William Ruto leading presidential candidate in four separate random Twitter polls

by Enock Ndayala
William Ruto has lashed out at the Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga saying he lacks the plan to transform the country.

Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto remains ahead of all other presidential hopefuls if four recent Twitter polls are anything to go by ahead of the 2022 General Election.

The deputy president who has expressed his ambitions to succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta has remained ahead in all the random Twitter polls with his closest competitor Raila Odinga emerged second.

The polls were conducted by city lawyer Ahmednasir, Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi, political analyst and blogger Mutahi Ngunyi as well as K24 TV.

The recent of all the four Twitter polls was conducted by Nelson Havi in which more than 38,000 Kenyans on twitter took part.

It ranked William Ruto at 55.6 per of the total number of votes polled while Raila, his closes competitor emerged second with 21.8 percent.

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana got 6 and 16.7 percent respectively.

On September 7, K24 had conducted a similar exercise where 19, 481 Kenyans participated in the exercise.

Again, the former Agriculture Minister emerged ahead of all other presidential candidates with a popularity score of 60.3 percent.

ODM leader emerged second with 22.5 percent whereas Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and businessman Jimmy Wanjigi came in at third and fourth with 9 percent and 8.2 percent respectively.

Prior to this, lawyer Ahmednasir had asked Kenyans on who they will vote in as the fifth president if elections were held now.

The poll attracted close to 70,000 participants who again listed William Ruto ahead of all other presidential hopefuls.

The former Eldoret North Member of Parliament had a popularity rating of 58.5 percent of all votes cast whereas Raila got 30.7 percent.

Mudavadi managed to get 7.7 percent while Kalonzo Musyoka emerged last with a popularity rating of 3.1 percent.

Another Twitter poll that was conducted in August by Mutahi Ngunyi which attracted 44,546 voters placed William Ruto ahead of other presidential hopefuls.

Of the 44,546 votes, the deputy president got 56.5 percent of the total votes while Raila was listed second with 33.1 percent while Mudavadi and Kalonzo were listed third and fourth with 7.8 and 2.5 percent respectively.

The Twitter polls are in no way scientific and might not represent the true picture on the ground as the country moves closer to the 2022 General Election.

To win a presidential election, a candidate has to garner more than 50% of the total votes cast and at least 25% of votes cast in more than half of the counties.
