William Ruto laughs off Raila endorsement by Mt Kenya tycoons

Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed ODM leader Raila Odinga’s endorsement by Mt Kenya tycoons on Wednesday, December 8.

During a campaign rally in Makueni County on Thursday, December 9, Ruto termed Raila Odinga’s endorsement by the Mt Kenya Foundation tycoons as useless.

He challenged his main competitor to seek approval from Kenyans, and not only selected Mt Kenya tycoons who are after protecting their own interests.

“It is futile to cut political deals in hotels. Those deals are not representative of the interests of Kenyans,” Ruto said.

His sentiments comes after the Mt Kenya Foundation members endorsed Raila Odinga to be President Uhuru Kenyatta’s successor in 2022.

While endorsing Raila, the tycoons termed William Ruto as a corrupt person, who can not be trusted with keeping Uhuru’s legacy.

“We do not feel safe in the hands of individuals with a history of looting public coffers, land grabbing and perpetrating the displacement of our people,” they said.

At the rally in Makueni, William Ruto further challenged the Ukambani nation to join his UDA camp and avoid being deceived by Raila Odinga once again.

“You should join us in forming the next government since we have another opportunity. That is why I have come for you early before you make the mistake you have been making – wasting your time voting for the riddles man,” he said.

Ruto’s suggestion to Ukambani people to leave Raila Odinga’s camp comes at a time when their Kingpin Kalonzo Musyoka has given a wide berth to Raila Odinga’s function.

On Friday, December 10, Kalonzo’s team revealed that he will not be able to attend Odinga’s declaration at the National Azimio la Umoja rally at Kasarani stadium.

He cited his official tour to Juba, South Sudan as a reason why he will be absent.
