Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s ODM party has scoffed at those criticizing President William Ruto’s unending foreign trips.

United Democratic Alliance party’s Presidential candidate William Ruto will emerge second with 8.1 million votes behind Raila Odinga who will easily get 9.1 million votes if presidential elections are held now.

According to a new opinion poll released by Infotrak Research on Wednesday, July 13, Ruto has lost about 300,000 votes in the last 30 days alone.

The survey further shows that the former agriculture minister’s popularity ratings dropped to 8.1 million up from 8.4 million the second in command had in June, representing 37% from 38% in June.

During the time under review, Ruto’s main challenger in the State House race Raila Odinga’s popularity ratings improved by 1 percent in the last month to 43 percent down from 42 percent he had in June.

“Raila has not gained much since we did our last poll in June (2022). His popularity has increased by one percent and Ruto’s has gone down by one percent from 38 percent last time,” Infotrak boss Angela Ambitho said.

Roots Party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah comes in at a distant third at 4 percent while Agano Party presidential candidate David Mwaure Waihiga has 0.1 percent.

While the survey showed that neither Kenya Kwanza Alliance nor Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party would produce an outright presidential winner in round one, there are still more than 3.6 million voters who are undecided.

This however not enough to make either Raila or Ruto president after round one of voting.

According to the constitution, for one to win the presidency in round one, they have to win more than half of the votes cast nationally i.e 50%+1, and also win more than 25% of votes cast in at least 25 counties or more.

The Infortrack opinion poll comes just a day after another survey conducted by the Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) established that Raila is still ahead of Ruto just days to the polls.

The research findings released on Monday, July 11, indicated that Raila who is presumably vying for the last time enjoys national support of 42 percent.

He is followed closely by the 2022 presidential front runner William Ruto, who enjoys 39 percent popularity.
