Deputy President Willam Ruto has stated that the war on corruption in Kenya can only be won if separated from politics among many other things he said have weaponised.
Speaking during a meeting with grassroots leaders from Kiambu on July 1, Ruto accused government agencies of politicising the war or corruption.
According to the Ruto, who was once found guilty of grabbing a 100-acre parcel of land from a farmer in his native Uasin Gishu county, the war on corruption in Kenya should also not be fought along political and/or tribal lines.
“The fight against corruption will succeed the day we remove politics from that fight. It will succeed the day we remove ethnic or political lenses and we prosecute corruption as corruption.
The day we avoid the weaponization and criminalization of politics or political opinion. And using the criminal justice system to try and blackmail and intimidate people on matters to do with politics. We will succeed in the fight against corruption when we stop that nonsense,” DP William Ruto said.
His sentiments follow an outcry by members of his Tanga Tanga camp, blaming government bodies like EACC, DPP, and DCI for haunting them because of their political affiliation.
Recently, the DCI embarked on a graft case against Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua where he is accused of acquiring illegal tenders amounting to Ksh 12 billion.
Members of DP Ruto’s camp accused the DCI of being biased in the war against corruption and investigating Rigathi just because of hie is in William Ruto’s political camp.
“You cannot be coming up with imaginary cases against those allied to DP Ruto. The time of mischief is running out,” Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika warned during the meeting.
Other than being the targets of the war on corruption, the legislators allied to Ruto also decried facing security threats.
On February 8 2021, the Tanga Tanga held a press conference where they raised concerns on security threats that DP Ruto himself is facing.
“We urge the international community to be on the lookout and regulate whatever is happening in Kenya regarding the William Ruto’s security,” noted Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika.
