William Ruto makes first public appearance since casting vote

by Enock Ndayala

On Tuesday, August 9, Deputy President William Ruto was among the first presidential candidates to cast his vote.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate cast his vote at Kosachei Primary School in Turbo Constituency, Uasin Gishu County.

Since then, the deputy president had not been captured in public even as the presidential vote counting continues.

On Tuesday, August 9, Deputy President William Ruto was among the first presidential candidates to cast his vote.

But on Friday, August 12, the deputy president made his first public appearance.

The second in command spent the afternoon with a section of leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance political formation at his official Karen residence.

DP Ruto was in the company of Kenya Kwanza co-principals Moses Wetang’ula of Ford Kenya and Amani National Congress (ANC) Musalia Mudavadi, as well as National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

Others were Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, his Kikuyu, and Kiharu counterparts Kimani Ichungwah and Ndindi Nyoro respectively.

Taking to his social media platform, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa exuded confidence that the Kenya Kwanza Alliance will beat Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party flag bearer Raila Odinga to form the next government.

“The Hustler is Happy and Grateful to the Almighty and the People. Freedom is loading,” Ichungwa wrote.

Prior to this, the deputy president who is in a tight race with his arch-rival Raila Odinga had met with election observers.

“At the Karen office, held a meeting with AU-COMESA Election Observers Mission who congratulated Kenya and voters for a peaceful election,” William Ruto said in a Tweet.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has kept away from the public since he cast his vote at the Kibra where he was accompanied by thousands of his supporters.

It is suspected that the two presidential front runners are nervous as the State House race gets tough just days before the official announcement of the winner.
