Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and Nyali MP Mohammed Ali held discussions with DP William Ruto on May 18.

The Nyali legislator said that the meeting was meant to discuss the economic progress of the coastal region.

Ruto was briefed on the progress of the development of an economic blue print for the region.

This meeting comes after the two, together with fellow Tanga Tanga leaders from the coast said that they will present an economic framework to Ruto.

Some of their key economic demands include;

  • Creation of a special economic zone at the coast,
  • Developing the Blue Economy and,
  • Creation of job opportunities in Lamu and Mombasa ports.

The legislators intend to give the framework to Ruto, and discuss how he will help the region attain economic glory should he be president in 2022.

According to statistics from IEBC, the coastal region has approximately 1,712,928 registered voters.

Apart from economic gains, the leaders also want Ruto to pick a running mate from the region in 2022.

In the meeting, the leaders also demanded that Ruto should pick his 2022 running mate from the Mt. Kenya region. Photo: William Ruto/Facebook.

This puts them at logger heads with their Mt. Kenya counterparts who presented similar demands to the former Eldoret North MP.

Ruto-allied politicians from central held a meeting with Ruto in April where they presented economic matters to be prirotisd for the region.

In the meeting, the leaders also demanded that Ruto should pick his 2022 running mate from the Mt. Kenya region.

Central stands out to be advantageous to Ruto as it boasts of close to 5 Million voters who will be integral in determining Ruto’s fate.
