Dozens of police officers were forced to be deployed to restore order. The officers were forced to use tear gas to disperse hundred of those who had attended the rally.

Kivumbi.co.ke could not immediately establish if there were any casualties but reports have it that several people sustained minor injuries during the fracas.

The event has drawn mixed reactions from across the political divide with many condemning the political intolerance witnessed.

This is especially considering the fact Raila Odinga recently held a very successful rally in William Ruto’s political bedrock of Eldoret.

Kisumu county and the larger Luo-Nyanza region is ODM leader Raila Odinga’s political bastion since the early days of opposition politics in the early ’90s.

Politicians perceived to be strongly against Riala Odinga always find it hard to successfully address gatherings in several parts of Luo Nyanza -including Migori and Kondele.

In September 2021, violence erupted at a political event staged by ODM presidential ticket contender Jimmy Wanjigi who was on his tour of Nyanza.

The politician-cum-businessman had been scheduled to meet party delegates at Maranatha Faith Assemblies Church hall in Migori town on Friday, September 17, to popularise his quest to get ODM party presidential ticket when the chaos erupted.

However, the meeting failed to kick off after rowdy youths armed with stones and other crude weapons invaded the venue beating delegates who were seated.

The rowdy youths further pelted Wanjigi with stones forcing him to cut short his address to residents.

The youths vowed not to allow the businessman to hold his political rally in Raila Odinga’s strongholds following his ‘Fagia Wote’ slogan which the youths said was aimed at attacking the former Prime Minister.
