William Ruto moves swiftly to calm nomination fallout in UDA

Deputy President William Ruto has moved to calm the storm of nomination fallout in the United Democratic Alliance.

Speaking during a meeting with grassroots leaders from Kandara Constituency on September 16, the Deputy President assured members of free and fair nominations in UDA.

While addressing the nomination fallout in the party, Ruto assured all members there will be no direct nomination tickets to some party members vying for various posts.

“United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party belongs to citizens, it is a party for hustlers. I want you to know that,” he assured.

According to Ruto, the nomination fallout was good, as it showed that there are other rival politicians who are eyeing the party’s ticket.

“When I saw supporters of Jamleck Kamau, Wairagu, and Nyakera protesting the endorsements, I knew there are some people who are in UDA but have not come out in the open to declare the same,” Ruto said while urging them to join the party he said he will use to vie for the presidency.

The UDA party members had a fallout after DP William Ruto held a meeting with grassroots readers from Murang’a County recently.

In the meeting, DP William Ruto praised attendants such as Irungu Kang’ata and Susan Kihika for their contribution to the party.

This was interpreted by a section of UDA members as a direct endorsement of the two by William Ruto.

The members raised concerns on the credibility that will be in the UDA nominations since they assumed Ruto already has his own favorites who will be given direct tickets.

“We find this unacceptable, undemocratic subverting the will of UDA supporters. We are equally concerned that such a move is only perpetrated in the Mt Kenya region,” said a section of UDA supporters from Mt Kenya Region.

The grassroots leaders then made a decision to ditch the United Democratic Alliance.

However, UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina calmed this storm, saying that the party will give nomination tickets based on merit.
