Deputy President William Ruto has the recently new law on political parties signed by President Uhuru Kenyatta will bring to an end bad politics.

Ruto who was speaking in Kiambu County on Sunday, January 30, said the new law will contain leaders practicing politics of deceit.

“Wiki iliyopita, Bunge imepitisha sheria. Sio sheria ya kuboresha uchumi wala ya kuweka usalama Kenya, ni sheria iliyopitishwa ndio mtu wa kitendawili asitapeli wakenya tena (Last week, Parliament passed a law.

“It is not a law to improve the economy or to secure security in Kenya, it is a law passed to ensure (Raila Odinga) does not cheat Kenyans again),” William Ruto said.

Ruto, who is expected to battle it out with the ODM leader Raila Odinga in the August 9, General Election further warned Kenyans against trusting the former premier because he does not keep his promises.

Ruto wondered how Kenyans can trust a leader who other leaders cannot trust forcing them to amend the law to curtail his bad politics.

“If someone is a political conman that laws have to be made to stop him, will Kenyans survive his lies?” he posed referring to the recently passed Political Parties (Amendment) bill 2021 which allows for the formation of coalition political parties enabling it to field a presidential candidate.

On Thursday, January 27, President Uhuru assented to the bill making it law. It prescribes modalities on how coalitions parties operate.

Such coalition parties are required to formalize their agreements at least six months before a General Election.

Ironically, William Ruto’s allies opposed the bill throughout its debate in National Assembly, at one point the speaker having to postpone the debate.

The bill was initiated by President Uhuru and Raila Odinga’s allies and will among other things make it possible for politicians seeking other elective seats part from the presidency to vie either on a coalition ticket or on the ticket of the coalition’s affiliate parties.

Kipchumba Murkomen, a Ruto ally, has warned that the law will finish the political career of many politicians allied to RRaiula Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
