William Ruto details how Jubilee party has been destroyed but refuses to blame Uhuru

by Nderi Caren

Deputy President William Ruto passionately described how the fall of Jubilee Party came about while blaming unnamed individual trusted by Uhuru Kenyatta to run the affairs of the party for its downfall.

Speaking in an interview with KTN the deputy president was quick not to blame Uhuru for Jubilee’s woes even though the Head of State is the party’s ultimate leader.

“I am part of that leadership, I can not apportion blame to my boss (President Uhuru Kenyatta). There are people whom our party leader trusted to run the affairs of the party and unfortunately they have let him down and in the process they have destroyed the party,” he said.

According to Ruto, as the Deputy Party leader of Jubilee, he tried to swing into action but was declared a persona non-granta in the party offices.

“I tried to step in when I saw we were not making the best decisions, but then when I went to the party headquarters, it was construed that I wanted to take over the party,” he explained.

He blamed the fall of Jubilee Party on lack of engagement between the leadership and its membership as required by the party constitution.

“We have never had a party retreat, meeting, or a parliamentary group (PG), except the PGs that have been called to expel members. There has never been a constructive engagement, and a party is built on trust,

“You must work with people, you must not under-estimate or look down upon others, even the smallest in the Party deserves a hearing and to be appreciated,

“Unfortunately, the party we spent so much time, energy, resources putting together has been dismembered and destroyed,”   he said.

The second in command recalled how Jubilee was a strong party to the extent of forcing others to form a coalition in order to face them.

“The reason why NASA was created is that we put a lot of pressure on the different political parties in NASA when we created Jubilee Party. Jubilee became so big that ODM, Wiper, FORD Kenya and ANC would not dare to contest alone,

“If we would have held Jubilee Party together, NASA would have also held together us and we would have two strong national political formations. We would not have tribal parties,” said Ruto.

Currently, members of the NASA coalition are in the process of creating coalitions with Jubilee Party in preparation of the 2022 General Election.

Wiper Party entered into an agreement with Jubilee Party and now ODM is in the process of also sealing a coalition agreement with President Uhuru’s party.
