by Enock Ndayala

Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed President Uhuru Kenyatta‘s move to endorse ODM leader Raila Odinga for the presidency in the forthcoming presidential elections.

Speaking at Sagana State Lodge, on Wednesday, February 23 when he hosted thousands of Mt Kenya residents, the president affirmed that his handshake partner stands a better chance of steering the nation in the right direction.

“An old man on a stool sees further than a boy on a tree. Let me stick with the old man who I can talk to,” President Uhuru said in an apparent reference to Raila Odinga.

Adding that “The person I will hand power to and you all know him and you have been mentioning his name, will inherit 13 trillion economies from me yet I inherited a 5 trillion economy from Kibaki.”

But speaking in Makueni and Machakos counties during Kenya Kwanza rallies, the deputy president said President Uhuru Kenyatta has no authority to decide who will be the fifth president.

Ruto who has expressed his ambitions to succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta said the decision on who will succeed the Jubilee party leader is in the hands of millions of Kenyan voters.

Ruto further castigated the former prime minister for compelling the president to drum up for his support in the August 9, General Election saying that it was unfair for Raila who has never voted for Uhuru to give the outgoing president a heavy task of campaigning for him.

“Huyo Uhuru hamjawahi kumpigia kura, sahi mnamfanyisha kazi mingi na kazi ambayo ni ngumu ya kujaribu kuongea na raiaati apigie mtu ya kitendawili… Sasa, hiyo kazi itawezekana kweli?”

Loosely translated to “You have never voted for Uhuru, you are giving a lot of work for him and it is a difficult task to try to talk to the masses to vote for that old man… Now, will that job really be possible?” William Ruto posed.
