William Ruto set for Nyanza tour days after grand reception on Madaraka Day

Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto is set to tour the lakeside region just days after he received a triumphant reception during the Madaraka Day fete.

Management consultant Eliud Owalo who has been leading Ruto’s team in Nyanza said the DP is expected to visit Kisumu county anytime from next week.

According to Owalo, Ruto is expected to host leaders and professionals from Raila’s turf who had been tasked to craft the regions blueprint on what will be contained in his campaign manifesto.

“We will soon be taking Ruto on an intensive tour of the region for the direct interface with the hustlers at the grassroots,” Owalo said in an interview with The Star Newspaper.

Owalo further said the enthusiastic reception accorded to Ruto is a clear indication that the 2022 campaigns could be based on issues and not personality as it has been witnessed before.

“Never again in this country will we be playing political ethnic conglomerations against each other,” Owalo added.

It is understood that Ruto had avoided touring Nyanza for close to a decade due to political differences that existed between Jubilee and NASA and CORD between 2013 to 2017.

On Tuesday, June 1, the DP received a grand reception in Kondele as he made his way out of the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo after Madaraka Day festivities.

Kondele residents blocked Ruto’s motorcade who was from addressing residents at Madaraka Day celebrations.

In a video that went viral in social media platforms, residents could be heard chanting Ruto’s name.

The tour is expected to be the first ‘meet the people tour’ at the region which has been primarily considered to be Raila’s political bedrock.

Ruto has in the recent past embarked on meeting leaders and professional thinktanks to solidify his political base across all regions ahead of the next years General Election.
