Deputy President William Ruto has termed as ‘dangerous’ the claims made by political analyst Stanley Livondo that he attempted to assassinate President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking at St John Catholic Church in Igembe South, Meru County on Sunday, February 20, the deputy president warned politicians against making reckless remarks that can trigger hatred and divisions as the country gears towards the August 9, General Election.
“I am calling on leaders and politicians to be careful about what comes out of their mouths because careless and reckless utterances may cost the country a lot by bringing hatred and divisions ahead of the General Election,” William Ruto said.
The deputy president who was accompanied by Kenya Kwanza Principals Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula further urged his competitors in the 2022 elections to focus on selling their manifesto instead of fueling hatred.
“No need of mud sliding each other by telling lies. Let us all meet in the field and embrace peaceful campaigns and allow Kenyans to choose their leaders because the unity of the nation is bigger than any person,” he said.
Livondo who unsuccessfully contested for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat alleged that President Uhuru Kenyatta broke ranks with some top government officials following the assassination attempts on his life.
Speaking in Thika on Saturday, February 19, during the thanksgiving ceremony of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Livondo without mentioning names claimed that the second in command tried to crash an aircraft carrying President Uhuru on two different occasions.
“If your friend who is so close to you like a brother attempts to crash a plane that you are on board more than twice, will you forgive him?
“In the first instance, President Uhuru was flying from Kisumu to Nairobi while on the second attempt he was headed to the United States through Dubai. The plane was forced to divert to Kenya because of the botched attempt to crash his plane,” Livondo said.
