Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has threatened to kick out violent politicians who cause chaos during the party’s nominations.

Addressing UDA party aspirants drawn from the coastal region on Tuesday, October 19, the former Agriculture Minister noted that there will be an automatic disqualification of violent aspirants found using chaos to suppress their competitors.

“Any candidate that uses violence in UDA will be disqualified; violence must never be part of the equation in UDA,” William Ruto said.

The Deputy President further assured all those aspiring to use his party as their political vehicle in next year’s election of fairness in picking party flag bearers.

Ruto who continues his tour of the Coast region urged all party hopefuls in the region to stay put noting that no ticket will be issued against the wishes of the electorate.

His sentiments came at a time a section of UDA members had raised concerns within the party that some well-placed individuals with close proximity to the second in command were keen to use their positions to gain an undue advantage over others.

“During a consultative meeting with UDA party aspirants from Lamu, Kwale, Mombasa, Taita Taveta and Tana River Counties at Wild Waters, Mombasa County, in the company of 14 MPs from the region; gave them assurance of free, fair and democratic nominations,” Ruto said.

The deputy president spoke just a day after the UDA party was named the most preferred political party in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2022 General Election.

The latest poll by Mizani Africa released on Monday, October 18, revealed that 61.7 percent of Mt Kenya residents prefer the UDA party over other parties.

In April, the deputy president said he will use the UDA party to vie for the 2022 presidency should the Jubilee party in which he is the deputy party leader deny him the chance to fly the party’s flag in the August 2022 elections.
