Deputy President William Ruto has said that he will not be intimidated by government using the justice system against him ahead of the 2022 battle with Raila Odinga.

Speaking in Kajiado County on Sunday, October 31, Ruto said that the state is sending fear to him and members of UDA camp who want to bring national unity.

“Form a political party with a national outlook like UDA and stop creating confusion with small tribal political parties,” Ruto said.

Ruto asked the government to provide a fairground for every candidate ahead of his 2022 battle with Raila Odinga.

This, he said, will help in making the elections process peaceful. He added that Kenyans will not be coerced into making political choices.

“The contest must be free of blackmail, threats and intimidation. Fear is a sin. We cannot buy it. Kenyans will only buy issues,” Ruto said.

The Deputy President’s statement comes after a warning from President Uhuru Kenyatta to voters that was seen as a direct hit at Ruto.

On Saturday, Uhuru cautioned voters against electing thieves, who will stain his legacy together with that of former President Mwai Kibaki.

“Please don’t allow Mwai Kibaki’s 10 years and my 10 years to be destroyed by electing thugs and thieves,” Kenyatta advised.

He also warned against choosing leaders that might sink the country into post-election warfare.

“I urge you, don’t be incited. Choose leaders who will ensure this country remains peaceful and united and those who will carry on with the work we already started and not take us back to where we came from,” he said.

After the warning, Ruto allies dared the Head of State to take actions on the thieves he is talking about.
