William Ruto wants all politicians punished equally for hateful statements

by Antynet Ford

Deputy President William Ruto has accused government agencies of biasness in handling hatemongers ahead of the August 9, elections.

Speaking on Monday, January 10, in Bomet County during his visit to the vote-rich Rift valley region, the deputy president called for the law to be applied equally to those who will be found inciting Kenyans in the ongoing electioneering period.

“We want every inciter in Kenya, whether from UDA or the other side, to apply the law equally so that we can secure our nation. We are a democratic party.”

This comes a day after Meru Senator Mithika Linturi was arrested following his Madoadoa statement in which the lawmaker said those opposed to William Ruto’s presidency in Eldoret should be eliminated.

The DP has further apologized on behalf of Linturi and asked UDA leaders to be mindful of their language going forward. He called on them to advocate for the peace and unity of the nation.

“For those who are talking about Senator Linturi …he made a statement which he regrets, a statement that had inappropriate language, and senator Linturi has apologized, he has withdrawn the statement and has unconditionally apologized to the people of Kenya,” DP Ruto said.

“We want to say, going forward and to members of my team, the hustler nation, that all of us must mind our language, all of us must be careful about what they say so that we can unite this nation and that is what the Hustler Nation believes in,” he added.

The second in command further stated that as UDA they do not believe in ethnicity and regional politics.

“As a party, we believe in the unity of the nation we don’t believe in ethnic, regional, or village politics…and I want to say that we do not subscribe to any divisive talks we do not agree with talks that profiles any individuals or groups because we are a national party that brings all the communities of Kenya together, “he said.
