William Ruto woes small parties in Raila Odinga’s bedroom

Deputy President William Ruto has woed small parties in Raila Odinga’s political bedrock by allowing them to partner with the United Democratic Alliance, a position he was earlier against.

During his tour of the Nyanza region, the DP softened his stand on working with small parties in a bid to woo politicians in Raila Odinga’s political bedrock.

Among the political parties that Ruto is set to partner with is the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that is led by Migori Governor Okoth Obado, who has a pending criminal case related to the death of a student in Migori county.

“All those who have been isolated are welcome on board. We cannot form a government if we keep isolating these small parties. I am ready to work with them,” William Ruto said.

On his part, Okoth Obado promised to work with Willliam Ruto to form the next government.

Ruto’s strategy to woo small parties in Raila Odinga’s bedroom has been seen as double standards since he has been against formation of small parties in Mt Kenya region.

His allies from Mt Kenya region led by Gatundu MP Moses Kuria and former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri have fallen out with the larger UDA for advocating for their own parties.

After William Ruto reached an agreement with Okoth Obado, Moses Kuria called out Aden Duale for criticising him and Kiunjuri for insisting on forming small parties.

“Yesterday the Governor of Migori Okoth Obado held public meetings in his County with the Deputy President and declared that his PDP Party will form an alliance with UDA. Duale will not see that. All evil comes from Mt Kenya-led parties,” Moses Kuria said.

The Garissa Township MP had earlier accused Moses Kuria and Mwangi Kiunjuri of forming small parties so as to get powerful positions in DP Ruto’s government.

“Kuria, Kiunjuri, and others are just jostling for power. They want to hide behind their community and region,” Duale said.
