William Ruto’s allies in panic ahead of President Uhuru’s planned cabinet reshuffle

Deputy President William Ruto’s allies are restless ahead of an impending cabinet reshuffle by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Cabinet reshuffle is meant to create space for allies of Raila Odinga and other party leaders after doing away with William Ruto’s allies.

According to the Standard Newspapers, Uhuru is planning to kick out six Cabinet Secretaries, a number of Chief Administrative Officers, and Principal Secretaries.

“There could be some surprise names, but it’s all for the unity and good of the country. It will be very soon,” a source told the Standard Newspaper.

The new team could be unveiled by the President soon, as he aims at safeguarding his legacy by cutting Deputy President Ruto ties.

“The president is in his final lap. He wants to have a firm grip on his government and also rally the Opposition to work together,

The changes when effected are geared towards ensuring his legacy projects are not interrupted by political interest,” said the source.

Lately, the President has been holding meetings with Raila Odinga and One Kenya Alliance(OKA) principals, briefing them on national issues.

On August 10, Uhuru held a meeting with Raila Odinga(ODM) Kalonzo Musyoka(Wiper) Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) Gideon Moi(KANU), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya), and Wycliffe Oparanya(ODM) where the cabinet changes were discussed.

The looming Cabinet reshuffle comes amid a visibly strained relationship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

In an interview on August 23, the Head of State called on his deputy to resign from the government.

He accused him of derailing the Jubilee development agenda, yet again taking credit for some government projects.

However, William Ruto fired back at Uhuru, vowing not to resign from his position nor give up his ambitions to be the 5th President of Kenya.

For President Uhuru, one way to shed off William Ruto links is to clean his cabinet by kicking out Ruto sympathizers.
