William Ruto’s ally and Meru Senator Mithika Linturi was on Tuesday, September 14 charged with attempted rape.

This is after he was accused of sneaking into a married woman’s hotel room in the middle of the night, at Maiyan villas hotel in Nanyuki.

The charge sheet presented in court indicated that William Ruto’s ally intentionally and unlawfully attempted to rape the 36-year-old woman without her consent on January 30,2021.

Additionally, Senator Mithika Linturi was also accused of touching the woman indecently on her private parts.

While appearing before Milimani principal magistrate Martha Nanzushi, the Meru Senator denied the charges, asking the court to give him lenient bond terms.

The court released Senator Mithika Linturi on a cash bail of KSh200, 000 or a bond of KSh500, 000.

In a police statement recorded in January, the woman said that she went into the room to sleep, but did not lock the door since her husband was still outside.

At around 3.00 AM a man walked into the room, entered the bed, and started touching her in an unusual manner, without saying a word.

However, before his appearance in court on Tuesday, William Ruto’s ally denied attempting to rape the woman.

Instead, he said that the woman was in the company of other men, who pounced on him at his hotel room that day, stripped him naked, and physically assaulted him.

Linturi said the group, that comprised of Evans, Otieno, Ndichu, and Mohammed assaulted him and demanded he settles the matter amicably by paying KSh 1 million.

According to him, he was being prosecuted by the DCI for being William Ruto’s ally.

There, the Meru Senator is said to have been pressured by the investigators who threatened to have him prosecute if he continued supporting William Ruto.

He vowed to stand firm, not to back out of DP Ruto’s camp despite the intimidation.
