William Ruto’s ally Irungu Kang’ata could lose Murang’a gubernatorial race in 2022

William Ruto’s ally could lose the Murang’a gubernatorial race in 2022 according to a poll by Mizani Africa released on Thursday, September 24.

The poll shows that former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau stands a better chance in the Murang’a gubernatorial race than the Senator.

The Murang’a residents prefer to have Jamleck as their governor and not political heavyweights such as Irungu Kang’ata, Woman Rep Sabina Chege, and devolution PS Irungu Nyakera, all who have expressed interest in capturing the seat.

Here is a list of the most preferred candidate in their order as highlighted by Mizani Africa.

  1. Jamleck Kamau.
  2. Irungu Kang’ata
  3. Sabina Chege
  4. Moses Mwangi
  5. Irungu Wairagu
  6. Irungu Nyakera
  7. Stanely Kamau
  8. Joshua Toro
  9. Henry Gate

In 2017, Jamleck Kamau lost to the incumbent Mwangi wa Iria during the Jubilee Party nominations.

After his loss, Jamleck vowed to remain a strong member of the Jubilee Party.

However, the former Kigumo MP has shown signs of decamping to protested his perceived endorsement of Irungu Kang’ata for Murang’a gubernatorial race on a UDA ticket.

“When I saw supporters of Jamleck Kamau, Wairagu, and Nyakera protesting the endorsements, I knew there are some people who are in UDA but have not come out in the open to declare the same,” Ruto said.

The Deputy President was forced to calm the storm in UDA after members protested his perceived endorsement of his close associates like Kang’ata and Susan Kihika for the governorship.

Ruto assured members that UDA will hold free and fair nominations, dismissing reports that he has his own favourites.
