William Ruto’s commitment to artists battling effects of COVID-19

Deputy President William Ruto held a meeting with artists from Kenya after a plea by the latter to rescue them from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

After a request by rapper Khaligraph Jones, Ruto convened the meeting in his Karen residence to receive suggestions and proposals from the artists on how to salvage the industry during these tough times.

The artists offered solutions on how to enable the industry, in conjunction with the government to raise income amid the pandemic.

They assured Ruto that they will help in flattening the curve by spearheading campaigns to promote the COVID-19 protocols by the Ministry of health and call on Kenyans to get the vaccine.

Led by Khaligraph Jones, the musicians raised concerns on the ban on gatherings asking the government to help them develop a digital space to perform concerts without physical contacts with fans.

“Among the requests made were the creation of a special government fund to support the artists, government and persons of goodwill support to reengineer the industry in digital space to facilitate online music concerts and to assist the industry adapt to the new normal,” read DP Ruto’s statement.

Ruto promised to present the proposals and recommendations from the meeting to the National Emergency Response Committee on Coronavirus.
