by Enock Ndayala

Deputy President William Ruto’s party has canceled nominations in major parts of Nairobi County.

UDA National Elections Board Antony Mwaura on Tuesday, April 19, said the party has instead initiated opinion polls to settle on suitable candidates for Kamukunji, Embakasi East, and Starehe parliamentary aspirants ahead of the August 9, General Election.

“The board also clarifies that there will be no nominations for Embakasi East and Kamukunji constituencies under UDA using universal suffrage. Instead, alternative methods as provided by the party constitution will be applied,” Mwaura said.

The board’s hair further said that the party has also stopped its planned joint nominations with Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) in Dagoreti North and Mathare.

“The National Elections Board wishes to notify the public that after consultations between UDA and ANC, there will be no joint nominations for Dagoreti North and Mathare Constituencies,” he added.

The nominations in Dagoreti North and Starehe had been scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 14, but were pushed back due to disruptions and chaos.

This, according to Kenya Kwanza will only conduct party nominations for Roysambu parliamentary seat and other 19 words in the capital city.

The move is not only aimed at averting further fallout but also to curb the chaos as witnessed in other parts of the country.

Since the commencement of UDA nominations last week, there have been claims of delayed arrival of voting material, and voter bribery among other vices that led to chaos.

For instance, UDA party voting exercises at Kayole One primary on Thursday, April 14, came to standstill after agents allegedly locked themselves in the classrooms putting a pause to the voting exercise for more than three hours.
