William Ruto’s party denied permit to hold rally in Ann Waiguru’s home ground

Deputy President William Ruto’s party and his new political partners have been denied a permit to hold their rally in the recently constructed Wang’uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County.

Speaking to the press Governor Ann Waiguru, lashed out at the government for denying them the permit on the pretext that the stadium was still under construction.

“We are very shocked as leaders from Kirinyaga county having been denied a permit to hold the rally for Deputy President in Wang’uru stadium despite the fact that’s where Mashujaa day was, despite the fact PS Kibicho has been using it for public meetings,” Waiguru said.

“When we decided to ask for Deputy President, they decided to tell us the stadium is not complete, so our question is was it complete during Mashujaa celebration and then became incomplete, was it complete when PS Kibicho was using it,” Waiguru asked.

The outspoken governor and a section of MPs and MCs from Kirinyaga remained adamant that the Deputy President’s Saturday, January 29, rally will still take place in Mwea despite the venue being blocked.

“The Deputy President’s Saturday rally in Mwea will continue despite unwarranted refusal by the known ‘system’ operatives for the event to be held at Wang’uru stadium,” governor Waiguru wrote on Twitter.

Wang’uru stadium which hosted Mashujaa day celebrations last year is considered as President Kenyatta’s flagship project in the area.

Pointing an accusing finger at Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, Waiguru said no amount of intimidation, blackmail, or threats will stop DP Ruto from meeting his people.

“This discrimination will not go unnoticed by the people of Kirinyaga, we are telling them the ground is UDA even if they block us from using the stadium,” Waiguru said.

The vocal governor is scheduled to host DP Ruto, ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi, and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula in the first joint ‘earthquake’ rally in the Mt. Kenya region.
