Nominated MP Wilson Sossion has ditched Raila Odinga’s ODM Party and joined Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance.

With his eyes set for the Bomet senatorial seat, Sossion has pledged to support Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential contest.

According to the former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary-general, he reached the decision to join UDA after consulting elders from his community.

“They say charity begins at home, today in my residence, the elders of Motigo Sub location in Bomet Central have decided to endorse my senate aspirations in 2022,

The elders have advised me to stick on the prize and avoid backing any politician but to support Deputy President William Ruto in his 2022 presidential bid as well as popularizing the newly formed party UDA,” he wrote in a social media post.

Before his Tuesday, September 7 announcement, Sossion had denied claims that he had joined Ruto’s camp.

He said he is still serving his people under the ODM Party and can not defect before elections.

“Parliament has not been dissolved to facilitate the transfer and or window of change of political parties. It is not yet time for that, in fact the Deputy President who is in Jubilee has not announced he has decamped to UDA,” he said.

In 2017, Wilson Sossion contested for the Bomet gubernatorial seat under the ODM party ticket.

However, he lost the race to the late Governor Joyce Laboso of Jubilee Party.

Other than being nominated under the ODM Party ticket, the former Knut Secretary-General has been a personal friend of its leader Raila Odinga.

In 2020, Sossion invited Raila Odinga to his home for special celebrations after his daughter bagged a job at a prestigious law firm.
