Winnie Odinga hints Raila will vie for presidency in 2027

President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration on Wednesday, November 8, increased costs for key services under the Immigration Department.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the fifth time lost in his quest to occupy the country’s highest office in the August 9, elections.

The 77-year-old first vied for Presidency in 1997 and it was expected that this year’s fifth stab at the presidency was his last attempt considering his age.

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party had expressed confidence that their presidential candidate Raila Odinga will win the presidency considering the fact that he had the support of the ‘system.’

But the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati on Monday, August 15, declared William Ruto the fifth president-elect.

According to Chebukati, Raila garnered 6.9 million votes emerging second after William Ruto who polled 7.1 million votes in a closely contested race.

However, in what appears that Raila’s quest to occupy the highest office in the land is still valid, Kenya’s longest opposition leader could still vie for presidency in 2027 if remarks by her daughter Winnie Odinga are anything to go by.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Raila’s last-born daughter said she was a child of struggle and that she will be supporting her dad in whatever he decided to do.

Winnie Odinga said that she will actively be in the struggle in the 2027 general Election to support the ODM party leader in what appears that Raila will be in the ring to give the sixth stab at the presidency.

“Participating in a political fight comes naturally to me because I was born right into it. So in 2027, Winnie will be in the struggle,” Winnie Odinga said.

The 32-year-old who had vowed to get married at the lawns of State House once her father is sworn in further dismissed claims by a section of Azimio supporters that Raila Odinga was played by former President Uhuru Kenyatta

“I do not think so. The question, however, should be – at what point did he lose hold of the so-called system to Ruto?” she posed.
